Lyric

Nestled in the corner of the Calabash Bay beach is the truly romantic cut stone beach house of Lyric. Let the stresses of life roll away on the tide as you sit beside your private pool wondering if you want to walk the few stairs to the beach for a swim in the sea. The location offers you absolute privacy which is perfect for a romantic get-away, an artist's solitude, or just a breath of fresh air from a hectic lifestyle. A fish filled coral reef is located a short walk down the beach and is perfect for snorkeling. Calabash Bay is also the location of one of the local fishing villages. Watch for a boat to come in, then take a walk and watch them unload the colorful fish, lobster, and crab of the Caribbean. You may purchase some and take it home for your housekeeper to prepare for dinner.

This three bedroom house can accommodate up to six persons. With your housekeeper preparing your meals, your days can be carefree and easy. Shops, restaurants, and bars are a short walk away.

Jake's Place

Jake's a member of Island Outpost, is the recent recipient of the English based Tatler Magazine award for the "Best Hotel in the World for Under 100 pounds". In addition to the Tatler, several other members of the press have had the pleasure of experiencing Jake's unique hospitality. The following are the impressions and comments of a few of the esteemed guests.

New York Magazine (Nov 95) Five designer huts on the beach and one two bedroom cottage, spicy local cuisine, thatch bar, fish with nearby villagers or boating explorations of Black River. Good secluded beach, very rustic. Marianne Faithful and the German royal family thought so.

Vogue Magazine (Oct 95) Big news again because of the activities of local boy Chris Blackwell, the man behind Island Records and Island Outpost hotels. Now there is the low-key Jake's Place at Treasure Beach on the south coast, where the five cottages cost approximately US $150 plus tax per night and you can go on coastal walks and nature tours.

Caribbean Travel & Life (Dec95) The creation of Jamaican designer Sally Henzell and husband Perry (director of the landmark reggae film The Harder They Come, starring Jimmy Cliff), Jake's is downright funky. Set among private homes, the complex includes five rooms and a two-room cottage, plus an open-air restaurant and bar in the Treasure Beach area of Jamaica's south-west coast. Some of the cottages are in fact early 20th century rural Jamaican farmhouses, built with wood and adobe. Henzell has added some decidedly non-Jamaican touches: "Some people have called it Mexican, some call it Cape town Dutch. Its' really a conglomeration, just a lot of ideas I've had over the years.". Whatever you call it, the style incorporates earth tones and terra-cotta fountains, reed roofed verandahs, and sculpted door frames. Cool water showers are located outdoors, and the rooms are simply decorated with handmade furniture and brightly painted tin closet doors. Sally has had some fun with the lighting; glass bottles filled with colored water were sunk into the walls, at the right time of day rainbows dance across the mosquito-netted beds. Overall, the effect is eccentric but warm, not necessarily a style, but a vibe.

Located a short distance from the main complex of Jake's is Treasure Cot, a quaint seaside two-bedroom cottage. Treasure Cot offers all the ambiance of Jake's but with even more privacy. Perfect for families or anyone seeking peaceful solitude. Breakfast and dinner are prepared for you each day leaving more time for exploration and relaxation. The cost for Treasure Cot is $295 per night; this does not cover food.
